Five-year apprenticeship program. Apprentices work during the day (paid employment) and attend classes during day and evenings. A Journeyman certificate is awarded upon successful completion. **DUTIES: **The apprentice works directly under the supervision of a qualified Journeyman Electrician in installing or maintaining a variety of approved wiring methods for distribution of electrical light, heat, power, radio and signaling utilization systems. The work is performed in existing or new residential, commercial, and industrial buildings and includes street and highway lighting, traffic signals and other outdoor above and below grade installations. The trade requires considerable physical effort on the part of the apprentice to do lifting, climbing, crouching and working in cramped areas. **TOOL COSTS: **Approximately $500.00 **MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS TO APPLY:** - **AGE REQUIREMENT**: Must be at least 18 years of age at the time of registration, with valid gov’t issued ID. - Must be able to perform the work of the trade (see duties above) **(Must Show Evidence of the following):** - **EDUCATION REQUIREMENT**: Must be a high school graduate or have a GED. In lieu of a high school diploma or GED, may have a two-year associate degree or higher. - **ALGEBRA REQUIREMENT**: Must show evidence of successful completion of: one full year of high school algebra with a passing grade of “C” or better, or one semester post high school algebra course (e.g. Adult Education, Continuing Education, Community College, etc.) with a passing grade of “C” or better, or provide evidence of having successfully completed the NJATC Math Course (available on line at https://www.skillsprep.org/) _Pre-Algebra does not meet this requirement_. - **DOCUMENTATION REQUIREMENT: **Applicant must provide **official transcripts **(in English) to meet the above requirements. Non-English diplomas and/or transcripts must be translated and notarized with the embossed notary seal.  - **QUALIFYING EXAMINATIONS: **All applicants who meet the above qualifications will be scheduled to take a written qualifying examination (reading comprehension and algebra). **OTHER METHODS OF ENTRY **(the following methods will advance directly to interview)**:** - **MILITARY SERVCE**: Applicants who can prove at least 3 years of active-duty service in the past 5 years, or 6 years of reserve duty service in the past 2 years, or an “MOS” background in electrical. Must provide a copy of DD-214 during application. - **PRIOR EXPERIENCE**: Applicants who have at least 2,000 hours in the **electrical construction industry**. Applicants will need to show proof of experience by way of paycheck stubs, payroll reports or notarized letters of experience from prior employers showing the amount of hours worked. Training Director to review all records. - **PRE-APPRENTICESHIP PROGRAM: **Applicants who can verify they have completed a structured pre-apprenticeship training program meeting requirements recognized by the JATC, Community Outreach Groups, IBEW/NEC, or the National Building Trades Program. **ALL REQUIRED DOCUMENTATION NEEDS TO BE SUBMITTED WITHIN THE APPLICATION WINDOW. **If accepted into the program, applicants will be required to take and pass a pre-employment drug test. **QUALIFYING INTERVIEW: Applicants** who pass the qualifying exam, or qualify under other methods, will be scheduled for an oral interview by the Committee. The Committee members will ask standard questions that will help them determine the applicant’s ability to become an apprentice electrician. The names of interviewed applicants will be placed on the Eligibility List for Electrical Apprenticeship for one year.  **APPLICATION WINDOWS FOR 2026:** **February 23, 2026 – March 6, 2026** **August 3, 2026 – August 14, 2026** Applications will be available online once the application window opens.
