We’re looking for a skilled, detail-oriented transcriptionist to prepare professional meeting minutes for city councils, planning commissions, and other municipal boards. This is a remote, project-based 1099 position starting at approximately 2 projects per month with a 5-business-day turnaround for each project. There is potential for this role to grow into a full-time workload for the right candidate.

Responsibilities:

  • Transcribe and format digital recordings of municipal meetings.
  • Prepare summary-style or detailed minutes (not verbatim) according to each client’s preferences.
  • Accurately capture discussions, motions, and decisions while maintaining a professional, readable format.
  • Follow specific style and formatting guidelines.
  • Proofread and edit using Grammarly and Microsoft Word before submission.
  • Maintain professional relationships with clients and meet all deadlines.

Qualifications:

  • Proven experience with transcription or minute-taking (municipal or professional meeting settings preferred).
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word and familiarity with Grammarly and Robert’s Rules of Order.
  • Excellent grammar, spelling, and attention to detail.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills.
  • Ability to work independently and deliver high-quality work within 5 business days per assignment.
  • Reliable computer, internet connection, and ability to handle multiple file types (audio/video).

Compensation:

  • Project-based pay, determined by meeting length and complexity – starting around $24/hour.
  • Independent contractor (1099) position.
  • Potential for increased workload based on performance and availability.
