Summary of Duties

We currently have a Regular Full-Time position for a Pharmacy Technician in the Sunnybrook Manufacturing Pharmacy. The Pharmacy Technician duties can be broadly divided into four areas: sterile dose preparation and final technical check, CIVA fill-list filling/checking/delivery, non-sterile compounding and final technical check including including hazardous drugs and research items, and administrative duties such as inventory management. Responsibilities include tasks such as sterile product preparation of TPNs, bulk IV admixtures, syringes and cassettes utilizing aseptic technique, performing the necessary mathematical calculations and preparing compounded products, operating specialized equipment used in drug preparation and packaging, accurate and detailed record keeping. Other Pharmacy Technician duties include IV drug delivery to nursing units, stock and inventory management, ordering and receiving of drugs and supplies, and participation in chairing and documenting staff meeting discussions. As Sunnybrook is an Academic Health Sciences Centre, Pharmacy Technicians are expected to support learners at various stages of training through teaching and precepting activities as assigned.

 

Qualifications:

  • Experience or aptitude in aseptic medication preparation
  • Current licensure by the Ontario College of Pharmacists, a graduate of a CCAPP Accredited Pharmacy Technician Education program leading to licensure as a Regulated Pharmacy Technician, or nearing completion of the process and exams to become a licensed and Regulated Pharmacy Technician.
  • Able to work in a fast-paced and sometimes stressful environment
  • Excellent organizational skills, ability to multi-task including helping finish work tasks when the primary task has been completed.
  • Demonstrated ability to work well in a team environment and create a positive working atmosphere
