Job Summary:

The Trademark Administrator will be part of the IP team and will maintain and protect Cooper's trademark portfolios and will work closely with internal business teams and outside counsel on trademark strategy, selection of marks, clearance searching, and filing and prosecuting trademark applications, and will counsel internal clients on IP risks and correct use of trademarks.

Responsibilities

  • As part of a team, will manage large domestic and international trademark portfolios, trademark policing, disputes and enforcement, and domain name dispute resolution procedures.
  • Communicate effectively with internal clients and in-house legal team on creation of new marks, conducting clearance searching, providing results and risk assessment prior to adoption of trademarks.
  • Work with outside counsel on preparing trademark applications and related documents to obtain and maintain trademark registrations, including liaising with internal business team to support business objectives.
  • Collaborate with business teams to ensure government requirements and deadlines are met and ensure applications and registrations align with business strategy.
  • Collaborate with internal legal team to develop strategies to address trademark infringement, and work with internal and external counsel to support litigation activities.
  • Review and assist in the drafting and/or negotiation of license and other agreements involving trademarks and related IP.
  • Provide IP due diligence support for corporate development activities.
  • Maintain all electronic and physical trademark files and trademark-related agreement files.
  • Assist Internet Strategy team with domain name protection including coordinating with outside counsel on UDRP proceedings, cease and desist letters and providing trademark information necessary to acquire domain names worldwide.
  • Manage and resolve copyright matters, including reviewing content for potential infringements, coordinating with legal teams, and ensuring compliance with applicable copyright laws and internal policies.
  • Provide guidance on correct trademark usage and compliance to internal clients, including legal support for promotional material reviews.


Travel:
  • As necessary, about 5%.


Qualifications

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to provide clarity to an often-complicated topic and provide prompt customer service to a wide range of internal clients.
  • Detail-oriented with the ability to manage multiple priorities and track extensive details.
  • Multitasking skills with the ability to juggle deadlines for multiple clients at different stages of the registration processes
  • Excellent organizational skills, attention to detail, and accuracy.
  • Ability to prioritize and handle multiple responsibilities with minimal direction.
  • Capable of working both independently and in a team environment.
  • Experience with electronic document management systems. Heavy use of and experience using Excel, Word, Power Point.
  • Requires a positive attitude, willingness to learn, and proactive problem-solving approach to challenging situations.
  • Must have a firm understanding of, and strict adherence to, confidentiality and privilege considerations, and a mature level of discretion.
  • Commitment to professionalism and collegiality.


Work Environment:
  • In office 5 days a week.
  • Normal office environment.
  • Prolonged sitting in front of a computer.


Experience:
  • Five (5) + years of Intellectual property experience with 3 years of trademark experience.
  • Experience with domestic and international trademark practice.
  • Experience with managing substantial trademark portfolios preferred.
  • Corporate in-house experience preferred.

Education:
  • Bachelor's degree
  • Optional, paralegal certificate or other specialty certificate for trademarks


For U.S. locations that require disclosure of compensation, the starting base pay for this role is between $98,947.00 and $131,929.00 per year and may include cost of living adjustments. The actual base pay includes many factors and is subject to change and modification in the future. This position may also be eligible for other types of compensation and benefits.
