An overview of this role

As a Zuora Engineer at GitLab, you will be the core technical owner of our mission-critical finance and accounting applications within the Enterprise Applications team. You will drive how technology supports and transforms our Quote-to-Cash (Q2C), Procure-to-Pay (P2P), and Record-to-Report (R2R) processes, optimizing the systems that power our global subscription revenue. In this role, you will architect scalable billing, subscription management, and revenue recognition solutions on the Zuora platform, and enable high-performance integrations across systems like Salesforce, NetSuite, Stripe, Avalara, and customer-facing web applications. Your work will directly impact the accuracy, compliance, and efficiency of our financial operations, reducing manual effort and improving data integrity for teams across GitLab. You will also partner closely with finance, operations, and engineering stakeholders to define and systematize complex, cross-functional processes that support aggressive company growth. This role offers a unique chance to combine deep Zuora expertise with strategic systems design and hands-on engineering, all within GitLab's remote, asynchronous, and values-driven environment.

Some examples of our projects

  • Architecting scalable Quote-to-Cash workflows in Zuora that support complex subscription lifecycles, renewals, and amendments
  • Building and optimizing integrations between Zuora, Salesforce CPQ, NetSuite, Stripe, Avalara, and customer-facing web platforms to ensure accurate, real-time financial data flow

What you'll do

  • Own the design, implementation, and continuous improvement of our Zuora-based finance systems, ensuring reliable, scalable support for core Quote-to-Cash (Q2C), Procure-to-Pay (P2P), and Record-to-Report (R2R) processes.
  • Architect and implement end-to-end subscription, billing, renewal, and amendment workflows in Zuora, aligning system behavior with complex subscription business models and revenue strategies.
  • Lead the development, testing, and maintenance of Zuora Billing and Zuora Revenue configurations and customizations, with a focus on accuracy, auditability, and compliance.
  • Design, build, and maintain integrations between Zuora and key systems such as Salesforce (including Zuora CPQ), NetSuite, Stripe, Avalara, and customer-facing web applications, ensuring data integrity and reliable data flows.
  • Govern and optimize the Zuora product catalog and rate plan configurations, enabling fast launch and iteration of new products, pricing models, and promotions.
  • Develop, maintain, and enhance custom workflows, automations, and data pipelines (imports/exports, APIs, and integration tools) to reduce manual work and improve billing and revenue operations.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve complex, high-impact production issues across Zuora and its integrations, especially during peak billing cycles, working closely with stakeholders to minimize risk and downtime.
  • Create and maintain clear, comprehensive documentation for Zuora configurations, business processes, integration patterns, and operational runbooks, and share knowledge by training and supporting users across finance, operations, and engineering.

What you'll bring

  • 4+ years of hands-on experience implementing and supporting Zuora CPQ and Billing solutions end-to-end, from design through deployment.
  • Deep knowledge of the Zuora platform, including Zuora Admin, product catalog, and rate plan configuration, objects, APIs, and Zuora 360 integration.
  • Proven experience architecting and optimizing Quote-to-Cash, Procure-to-Pay, and Record-to-Report workflows in subscription-based businesses.
  • Strong Salesforce technical skills, including Apex, Visualforce, Lightning components, Flows, and approval processes, with a focus on tight alignment to finance operations.
  • Demonstrated ability to design, build, and maintain integrations between Zuora and core systems such as Salesforce CPQ, NetSuite, Stripe, Avalara, and customer-facing web platforms.
  • Solid understanding of financial compliance and reporting standards (for example, ASC 606, IFRS 15, and SOX) and how they translate into Zuora Billing and Zuora Revenue configurations.
  • Experience reducing manual billing errors and operational risk through process automation, data quality controls, and system-driven validations.
  • Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills with the ability to diagnose and resolve complex, high-impact issues across integrated finance systems during critical billing cycles.
  • Clear and effective communication skills, including the ability to collaborate with finance, accounting, sales operations, and engineering stakeholders and to train and support end users.
  • Self-directed and organized, comfortable owning projects from requirements through rollout in a remote, asynchronous environment.
  • Willingness to work effectively during Pacific Time hours and to participate in on-call rotations to support peak billing events and urgent production issues.

About the team

The Zuora Engineer is part of the Enterprise Applications Engineering team at GitLab, which focuses on building, scaling, and safeguarding the finance and accounting systems that power our global subscription revenue. We face the challenge of architecting and maintaining highly available, compliant financial workflows while continuously improving system performance, data quality, and user experience across a complex application ecosystem.
